For those of you looking for a larger size 600 watt led grow light, this one by Platinum LED would be my recommendation. The power efficiency is great as the previous models, replacing a 600w light and only using 345 actual watts. The quality and warranty mentioned previously are huge factors that made this the logical choice for a 600 watt light.

When I began researching these I had no intention of making a list where there’s only one company listed. However, it became clear that for a mid-range price that Platinum LED was the only brand I could recommend and feel like I was doing you justice.
Here are the main factors that really impressed me about these products and company:

- American owned and operated business
- An outstanding warranty
The LED grow light market has heavy competition from Chinese brands, because the components to make one can be cheaply mass produced. There are a few problems with this that prevents me from recommending these.
Firstly, you’re getting an inferior product that will not produce the results you want. Which is the whole point if you’re looking for the BEST grow light. The only reason they can make them so cheaply is because the parts used aren’t quality. It’s better to spend a little bit more money than replacing a unit two or three times.
Secondly, these companies are usually if not always extremely lacking in ANY kind of customer support, or offering a warranty that you can feel good about. Good luck getting support on a China based product!

LED Grow Light Tips
It is very important to keep in mind that all plants are different and require their own optimal growth conditions. Things such as:
- Exposure time
- Light Spectrum
LED grow lights can be tailored to certain plants preferred environments, so you have to make sure that it is compatible with your goals. Light output is probably one of the most important factors to be aware of. If the light isn’t bright enough then the plant may fail on that condition alone.
Secondly you want to keep in mind the wattage the grow light will consume, and the heat your plants will need to survive. Lenses are better than reflectors in the lights as well.
Lastly you want to keep in mind the light spectrum the plant is accustomed to. Full spectrum lights are the safest bet as the name implies because they cover everything.

The energy efficiency benefits are also tremendous with LED growth lights, as they are by far the most energy efficient lighting solution available. If you want to have an environmentally friendly light that will last for years. The life span of LEDs is a huge reason for this, as they can be expected to last 50,000+ hours with quality components. This puts maintenance worries to rest as they will last for years until they dim at the end of their rated life span.
Total control over plant growth
You’re probably wondering what I mean by total control. With LEDs you can target the exact wavelengths the plants prefer for photosynthesis, which is in the 400 to 700 nanometer range. The great thing though is if you don’t care about squeezing out every bit of efficiency, you can just use a full spectrum led growth light that will hit that sweet spot.
Setup and customization
Other lighting technologies with growth lights are far more cumbersome and hard to work with. LEDs are light, and don’t present a heat threat to your plants because of their low operating temperature. This removes a huge constraint to the way you can set up your growth lights, and how many you can have in the same space.

Important safety tips for using LED growth lights
LEDS are pretty easy to handle, but as with any electrical product you still need to take the right steps to ensure safety.
Fire is always a risk in a small environment with a ton of electrical devices set up. Keep that in mind when you set up your LED growth lights to keep all wires neatly organized and not jumbled all over the place. This will also allow you to spot any problems that arise with the wires themselves such as fraying or animals chewing through them. Another good rule of thumb is to check the wires of your lights upon receiving them, so you don’t put a damaged light up at all!
Avoid all sources of water
The lights themselves will probably not be very water resistant, and more importantly with anything electrical you want to avoid any possible accidents with water from occurring.
24/7 lighting is not necessary
Although LEDs are very power efficient, it’s not very plant efficient to have the lights on ALL the time. The time you need lights on will depend entirely upon what you are growing. It will not only save your budget to be aware of this, but possibly keep your LED growth lights from being exposed to any heat from other elements as well.
LED growth lights are the best choice for indoor lighting
With all the advances in LED technology in the past few years, there is no reason to use another lighting technology over LEDs, in my opinion. The customization options that you have just don’t exist with the others because of the technical limitations of them.
No other lighting comes close to the energy efficiency that will not only save you a ton of money in the long run, it will also let you focus on tasks other than maintenance. They also allow you to heat the plants independent of the lights since LED lights put out very low heat, and other technologies you have to take into account the heat generated by the lights.
There are just no substitutes for LEDs, and they just keep getting better!
