A LED headlamp is an incredibly useful item to have if you do anything outdoors. Really. Having a hands-free light source is a game changer. You no longer have to give up on what you’re doing because it’s dark! In this review I will cover why the SmarterLife LED Headlamp is a great choice for activities like:
…you get the idea!
Let’s get into the details of this head lamp
Firstly, I want to cover the design and form factor of the headlamp. It only weighs 1.5 ounces which is virtually nothing compared to other headlamps. The headband has enough slack to accommodate a hat which is also nice. It is IPX6 rated which means that it is about as water resistant as it gets. The build quality is tough and should stand up well to getting bumped and scraped. That means you don’t have to worry about durability at all.
Secondly (and maybe most importantly), how is the lighting? That’s probably the biggest factor when you’re looking at a headlamp! This one packs a punch with 115 lumens of lighting which is quite a bit. It has six different lighting modes you can put it in as well. Four of those are for the white LED (High power, medium, low, and flash), and two are for the red LED (Steadyand flash) When it comes to functionality it certainly does not lack it!
All of these different modes are controlled by a single button which makes it easy to use in the dark. This deserves some praise because if you’re in a low light situation, the last thing you want to do is fumble with multiple buttons. It’s a breeze to use.
The SmarterLife LED Headlamp is powered by a single AA battery that offers more than you’d expect. On the highest white setting, it lasts a whopping ten hours! Medium, up to 15 hours and on low up to 40 hours. All in all quite impressive. I’d say that the medium light would probably be sufficient for most outdoor activities. A single battery would last you a weekend of camping with ease.
It is also capable of tilting down from the straight position which is very handy for watching your feet when hiking at night. Because of the low weight it is also unlikely to actually fall down when you are walking. I only mention that because I’ve owned cheaper headlamps that do that and it is more annoying than you might think.
For whatever use you have in mind, I have no doubt that this headlamp is a good choice. The LED is very bright and the variety of modes you can put it in is impressive. Combined with the excellent battery life from a single AA, it’s easy to take a couple and know you’re covered for a long time!
There are cheaper options out there, but I’d rather purchase a good one once than a cheap one multiple times. SmarterLife is a family-owned business and I have a lot of confidence that they care about their reputation. The large amount of positive reviews on Amazon seems to confirm that as well.
